  10. This is probably the best Chat program available for
  11. computers connected on a LAN with other Amiga's or
  12. PC's.

  14. No server is needed, and you have a lot of the
  15. posibilities that IRC have.

  18. through the internet.

  51.    What is Amitory?
  52.

  56.    Amitory is a chat program made for use on a local
  57.    area network (usually ethernet with tcp/ip packets)
  58.    It does not need any servers because all messages
  59.    are sent by UDP to the broadcast address
  60.    It's probably the best chat program for use
  61.    internally on a LAN!

  64.    It's designed for a maximum of 254 users, and it's
  65.    required that all users that are going to chat with
  66.    each other have the same three parts of there IP
  67.    addresses. Netmask should (but not nescessarily (?))
  68.    be 255.255.255.0 (check your tcp/ip stack).

  71.    Static IP is recommended, ore else you will have
  72.    to run the preferences program before starting
  73.    Amitory each time your IP have changed.

  82.    Oratory for PC have existed in some years already,
  83.    but no Amiga version have been made.
  84.    I waited a year for a Linux version to port, but
  85.    the linux port of Amitory didn't progress to fast,
  86.    and was quite buggy.

  88.    Because of this, I decided to make an Amiga
  89.    version of this program, without building it on any
  90.    code of the pc or linux versions.

  92.    I didn't have much experience with coding, but I'd
  93.    made some small tools in arexx earlier.
  94.    That is why I decided to use arexx.

  96.    At first my plan was as simple as just see what
  97.    the other sayd, without any possibility to join or
  98.    to send messages. But after some coding, I found
  99.    out how to expand it. After some days of coding,
  100.    I had a complete Oratory for the Amiga in mind,
  101.    and I called it Amitory.

  103.    I needed a GUI too, and because I do like MUI,
  104.    the choice was simple -MuiRexx to make the GUI

  108.    PS: The Win95/98 version uses 4 Mb of memory, and
  109.        are 1Mb of size! :)
